About this piece
The North American Bison or buffalo is the great symbol of the great plains of North America. Once numbering in the millions, it sustained human populations for eons. Reduced to a small fraction of its original numbers, surviving in parks like Yellowstone National Park and a few other reservations, it is still a great thrill to see them in their natural habitat.
